2006 PINOT GRIS
RALPH KYTE-POWELL, THE AGE
3 April 2007
Pinot Gris is trendy. Whether it deserves its popularity is a moot point; standards vary, and some wines are plain awful, but Toolangi's Yarra Valley version is subtly attractive with spice, straw, floral and almond aromas. A dab of lees influence contributes texturally and the palate has a lightly unctuous, honeyed feel that leads to a long dry finish.
Ageing? Drink over two years.
Food ideas: Quiche, veal blanquette.

QANTAS INFLIGHT GUIDE TO WINE, 2nd Edition
This is a fresh style made in stainless steel, with a 10 percent barrel-fermented component adding complexity. Nashi pear, apple and nectarine aromas abound, and there are hints of dill. The palate is crisp and clear; a refreshing acidity gives a final lift to this more-ish wine.
