2006 PINOT NOIR
JAMES HALLIDAY, AUSTRALIAN WINE COMPANION
2009 Edition
Light-bodied, bright and fresh, with interesting textural play from forest floor characters, but needs more sweet fruit; wanders away on the finish. Screwcap. Rating: 89. To: 2011.

This Yarra Valley pinot really punches above its price. It has a silky texture with bright berry flavours of strawberry and blackberry, and a fine, savoury, long finish. Serve it with squab.
JENI PORT, THE AGE EPICURE
14 August 2007
A fresh young thing exuding morello cherries, red berries and a dry cherry pip astringency. Made at Yering Station.

I often like saying 'Toolangi' in a baritone African Chief style voice before tasting a glass. It's nearly as enjoyable as the wine, but not quite.
It offers up a gentle classic Yarra Pinot aromatic of red cherry, strawberry, spice and a bit of leaf mulch that leads into a light to medium bodied palate. The flavour is good with sweet red fruit and spice being the major players, accompanied by light dry tannins and clean soft acidity. It all flows along very nicely, is balanced and long, and drinks a treat from beginning to end. If you're out shopping for good Pinot under $25 then I'd pop this near the top of the list.
GOURMET TRAVELLER WINE
QANTAS INFLIGHT GUIDE TO WINE, 2nd Edition
Bright and fragrant with delicious redcurrant and raspberry aromas and a whiff of funky undergrowth and black truffle. The lively palate is only medium weight but brimming with sweet fruit balanced by fine, silky tannins and a zing of fresh acidity. A delightful drink.

This speaks of its vintage; the '06 Yarra pinots are uplifting
wines. Fine fragrance and lift, neat restraint and elegance, smelling
balanced too, this is complex and well crafted. The palate boasts
ripeness and weight, rich soft tannins flowing and curvaceous, staying
light through the finish with a waft of smoky complexity.
Score: 93. Quality: 4.5 stars. Alc/Vol: 13%. Drink: 2010. Closure: screwcap.

Another bright and assertive 2006 Yarra Pinot, showing fine fragrant notes, elegance and restraint. A well-crafted wine; complex but not obscured by winemaking. Elegant palate, with balanced ripe fruit presence, rich flowing tannins and a smoky twist through the finish. Terrific value!
