2013 PAULS LANE PINOT NOIR
JAMES HALLIDAY, AUSTRALIAN WINE COMPANION, 2016 Edition
Estate-grown, hand-picked, and made at Hoddles Creek Estate; matured in French oak barriques for 10 months. Exemplary colour; the fragrant, lightly-spiced bouquet leads into a palate that has what the French call nervosity, an almost three dimensional combination of tactile and flavour characters that are woven together to provide exceptional energy and length. Rating 97. Drink to 2028.
DIFFERENT DROP, February 2016
This vintage of Pauls Lane Pinot Noir was made by none other than Franco D’Anna at the famed Hoddles Creek winery in the Yarra Valley. The fruit for this wonderful wine comes off a small portion of the Toolangi Estate. This particular section of the vineyard is pruned to cap production at two tonnes per acre, thus increasing the quality and intensity of the fruit. This was a cracking year for the Yarra, with a slew of amazing wines rearing their heads, and pound for pound, this was well in the mix.The 2013 was awared a sensational 97 points from James Halliday making it one of the highest rated wines in the region from this vintage. You are paying for quality here; quality fruit from a great vintage and one of the country’s true Pinot Noir wizards guiding it on its way to bottle. This is arguably the best Pinot Noir release from this estate to date. Drink up.What It Tastes Like: This flows so easily through the mouth. Smooth, effortless, with a kiss of tannin cradling the finely detailed fruit. It’s savoury and highly perfumed, impecable oak etched through it. Very, very long finish which leaves the mouth begging for more. Persistant, unreleanting. Excellent Yarra Pinot. When To Drink It Food Match: Roast pheasant.
Hand picked from our Dixons Creek vineyard in the Yarra Valley. Cropping level adjusted to 2 tonnes per acre.
Aged in French oak barriques for ten months.
