2016 PINOT NOIR

Halliday Wine Companion, 2019 Edition

MV6, hand-picked, destemmed, wild yeast open-fermented, matured for 10 months in French barriques (10% new). Light, clear red-purple; bright, fresh red fruits on the fragrant bouquet and palate alike; light to medium-bodied; has good length and mouthfeel. Excellent value. Rating 94. Drink to 2029.

It's a pleasure to stick the olfactory organ into the glass with this. As per previous reviews, it's really about the primacy of fruit, square and centre: sour cherry, blackberry, a suggestion of wild strawberry - all with this underlying savoury bent.
The palate is gorgeously mid-weight, meshing together bright and juicy fruit, a little prickle of acidity to alert the senses further. Fine tannin adds another dimension. Good drinking.

Hand picked from our Dixons Creek vineyard, Yarra Valley. Cropping level adjusted to 2.5 tonnes per acre.

100% De-stemmed. Cold soaked for 3 days prior to fermentation, fermented in open top fermenters and plunged once daily. Malolactic fermentation in barrels and oak matured for 10 months in 100% French oak. 10% New oak and the balance in 1, 2 and 3 year old oak. Gentle filtration prior to bottling.
