"This is a serious chardonnay offering both substantial flavour and complexity. It’s a taut wine but that doesn’t stop the meal, grilled peach, honeysuckle and flint characters from exploding forth, bringing cream and nougat characters along for the ride. The finish is then all citrus, cream and cedar – and more importantly, is ultra convincing. This is top notch gear from Rochford."

Tasting Notes:
This Chardonnay shows a lovely level of restraint yet its flavours are here on display. Notes of flinty struck match, ripe grapefruit skin, white peach and flowering blossums. The palate is medium weighted but has equal parts stone fruit and citrus. There is juicy nectarines and a great energy from the acidity and phenolics of its northerly site.
Winemaking Notes:
Picked on the 7th of March 2023
Vinification & Elevage: Fruit was crushed and destemmed, then pressed to French oak barriques (25% new) for fermentation on lees with partial malolactic fermentation (12%). In oak for 9 months before racking prior to bottling. 200 dozen produced.
Viticultural Notes:
The fruit for this Chardonnay comes from old vine I10V5 clone that was planted in 1992 on our Briarty Road Vineyard, Gruyere.
2023 was a vintage where a wet spring provided challenges, yet through hard work and perseverance we enjoyed a mild and kind harvest period that has produced wines of vibrancy and finesse.
