‘L‘Enfant Unique’ translates into English as ‘The Only Child’ and we have named this wine for its focus and unique characters that are derived from Blocks 2 and 3 on our Hill Road Vineyard in Coldstream, Yarra Valley.
Tasting Notes:
Aromas of spicy cherry and raspberry, with cinnamon, cedar and some smokey truffle notes. There's a ferrous earthy character from whole bunches adding complexity. On the palate there's a nice sense of freshness, confidence of tannins and while there are suggestions of flavours oscillating between fruits and savoury that fresh line of rhubarb and strawberry fruit bounces along. The wine finishes with a hint of amaro.
Winemaking Notes:
Vinification & Elevage: Fruit was partially destemmed as whole berries, with 40% as whole bunches. A short cold soak prior to fermentation and on skins for 14 days. The wine was pressed to French oak (20% new) for malolactic conversion on lees and in oak for 10 months. 250 dozen produced.
Viticultural Notes:
Pinot Noir clones: D5V12 (Block 3 – 60%), MV6 (Block 2 – 40%)
2021 was a welcome return to ideal growing conditions here in the Yarra Valley. A prolonged, classical season allowed for brilliant definition of flavor across our range.
