Toolangi E Block Pinot Noir 2022

RRP: $100.00
95 Points - Halliday Wine Companion 2024

“…A vibrant crimson purple. Perfumed and lifted with its aromas of red and blue fruit together with a savoury, wild, whole-bunch, rosebush character. The palate is concentrated and energetic, but it's also structured with ripe, firm tannins that'll need a couple of years to soften and become fully integrated into the wine. It should be worth the wait.”
- Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion

Tasting Notes: This pinot from a tiny yielding season shows a nice mix of power and refinement. There is a nice savoury note to this wine, forest spices, dried herbs and nuts and violet notes. The fruit sits in the red spectrum, there are raspberries and red cherries. On the palate the red berries come to the front followed by grilled nuts, dried herbs and all the forest floor spices. The tannins carry the flavours well and the acid line keeps it fresh boding well for the future.
Winemaking Notes: Hand picked on 11th of March
Vinification & Elevage: Partially destemmed as whole berries with 10% of fruit fermented as whole clusters. On skins for 3 weeks, then pressed to French oak barriques and puncheons for malolactic conversion, aged in oak on lees for 10 months prior to bottling.
Viticultural Notes: Low cropped and hand harvested from 21-year-old vines of MV6 Pinot Noir clone from a selective section of E Block, this wine represents the very best Pinot Noir this vineyard produces.
Varietal: Pinot Noir 100%
Alcohol: 13.0%
